HITC Sport understands the Seagulls have won the race for the promising Ilkeston defender.
Brighton & Hove and Albion have launched a bid for non-league starlet Jordan Wheatley, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the potential deal.
The 17-year-old defender is currently with Ilkeston in the Northern Premier League and has come through their academy system having previously been with Mansfield Town.
He has made rapid progress this year and a host of clubs have been tracking his progress.
Now HITC Sport can confirm that Championship promotion hopefuls Brighton have had a bid accepted for the young centre half and hope to complete a deal ahead of the weekend.
Ilkeston are becoming renowned for their academy and only last year sold prized asset Che Adams to Sheffield United, and he is now being linked with a Premier League move which has seen the interest in Ilkestom increase as a result.
A step up to the second tier would be a sizeable one for Wheatley, but Brighton feel his potential cannot be overlooked.
