Steve Nicol gives straightforward response when asked about Steven Gerrard

Steven Gerrard could return to Liverpool to train.

Steve Nicol said on the ESPN FC show on BT Sport/ESPN on Thursday evening that Steven Gerrard should not be made a coach at Liverpool.

When asked if new Reds manager Jurgen Klopp should draft the former England international into his coaching team, the former Liverpool defender said: “I don’t see why he would.

“He has no experience in coaching. Unless you want a cheerleader, I don’t see what he would give to Jurgen.”

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp recently told Sky Sports that he is happy for Gerrard to train with his team.

The Englishman is on the books of Major League Soccer outfit Los Angeles Galaxy at the moment.

The 35-year-old moved to Galaxy in the summer transfer window after leaving Liverpool at the end of last season.

The former England international star struggled in the MLS, and many will suggest that his playing career is virtually over.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are on a three-game winning run at the moment. The Merseyside outfit defeated Rubin Kazan in the Europa League on Thursday evening to build on their wins against Bournemouth (League Cup) and Chelsea (Premier League).
