Sam Allardyce confirms the return of Sunderland quartet

Ola Toivonen, Fabio Borini, John O’Shea and Younes Kaboul will all be back for Sunderland's match against Southampton.

Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce has informed the club’s official website of positive news on the injury front at his press conference on Thursday, with four players returning to training.

Ola Toivonen, Fabio Borini, John O’Shea and Younes Kaboul have all returned to the Black Cats' ranks, and they got through a midweek session without suffering any ill-affects.

It means that the quartet will all be back and available for selection this weekend, when Allardyce’s men take on Southampton.

“The good news is that Ola trained, Fabio trained, John O’Shea trained and Younes trained today with no reaction from their first training session back with the squad,” Allardyce confirmed. “They will be available on Saturday.”

The return of the four injured players is a boost for Sunderland, as it makes their squad look considerably stronger for their match against Southampton.

The Black Cats need to keep their best players off the treatment table, as they look to start climbing the table towards safety.

At the moment Sunderland are languishing in 19th place in the Premier League standings, having picking up just one victory all season.

If they are able to beat Southampton at the weekend they do have a chance of moving out of the drop zone, though, and that would be a huge relief for everyone at the Stadium of Light.
