Bilic has demanded that even his creative players contribute in a defensive sense, with the Croatian keen for his side to be one of the most hard-working in the division.
And Le Tissier believes that Bilic’s approach has been very clever – as it has helped get the best out of the entirety of his squad.
“They’ve obviously had the word from the manager to say that if you don’t work hard you won’t be in my team and that’s how you get the best out of your squad,” the former Southampton striker said.
“It’s working brilliantly because, for me, Dimitri Payet has been one of the stars of the season.”
Payet certainly has been impressive, with his attacking style catching the eye of all observers so far this season.
The French international has been a wonderful outlet for the Hammers, and he has made a major contribution as West Ham have climbed to sixth in the Premier League table.
It is West Ham’s attacking style which has taken much of the plaudits this season, but it is worth noting how strong their defence has also been.
Bilic’s men have kept a clean-sheet against Arsenal, and they only let in one at Manchester City – showing how well drilled they are.
