Dier was brought to Spurs from Sporting Lisbon during the summer of 2014, and he has made rapid improvements at White Hart Lane.
The England youth international impressed last season, but he was rotated around the defence and never found a settled role in the side.
However, this time around, Mauricio Pochettino has played Dier in defensive midfield, and he has been a revelation, earning plaudits galore for the level of his performances.
And Kane said: “He’s been fantastic, he’s stepped into that role and made it his own.
“He provides a great protection for the back four and he’s good on the ball.
“He can play forward passes, he gets forward and he presses.
“He’s a great talent, and he’s learnt a different style of football, but he’s come and he’s done very well.”
Dier has been paired with Dele Alli in Tottenham’s midfield for much of the season so far, and the duo have been brilliant.
The Lilywhites are unbeaten in their last 10 Premier League matches, and one of the main reasons for this has been their defensive record.
The Lilywhites have conceded just nine times to date in the 2015/16 campaign, and Alli and Dier deserve great credit for the protection that they have given their side’s backline.
