Inside the Allianz Arena, Bayern Munich

Arsenal were hammered 5-1 by Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena in their Champions League game.

Arsenal's chances of qualifying for the knock-out stages of the Champions League were last night dealt a severe blow as they went down 5-1 to Bayern Munich in the Allianz Arena.

The result means they are now bottom of their group going into the final two games with their destiny firmly out of their own hands, as they trail Olympiakos in second place by six points with two games remaining. It means the Gunners must win their remaining two games - which includes a visit to the Greek champions - and hope Bayern can overcome them to stand any chance of making the last 16.

After the great performance against Bayern two weeks ago, this game was the polar opposite as they fell behind early to a goal from Robert Lewandowski. Mesut Ozil thought he'd levelled the game up shortly after but he adjudged to have handled the ball into the net. Thomas Muller doubled the home side's lead before the half-hour mark, while David Alaba's strike just before half-time gave the German champions a commanding half-time lead.

The second half didn't bring much joy for the Gunners as former Chelsea star Arjen Robben added a fourth 10 minutes after the break before Olivier Giroud showed what's in his locker with a well-taken consolation.

This was before Muller rounded off the scoring for the home side and secured their qualification from Group F.
