Dougie Freedman makes bold statement about Tyler Walker, Derby County fans react

Dougie Freedman believes Tyler Walker could be worth more than Derby Bradley Johnson, Tom Ince and Jacob Butterfield put together in the future.

Ahead of the East Midlands derby on Friday night, Nottingham Forest manager Dougie Freedman told Sky Sports pundit Rob Dorsett that he believes Tyler Walker could be worth more than Derby County's Tom Ince, Jacob Butterfield and Bradley Johnson in years to come.

Derby fans were quick to react to Freedman's comments on Twitter and rubbished his claims as a sign of desperation.

The former Bolton Wanderers manager made the confident claim about the young striker ahead of the game that could make or break his future as Forest manager.

Freedman, who has overseen just the one home win in seven league games this season, will be hoping the youngster can provide the quality to upset Derby on Friday night and stop the Rams from reaching the summit of the table.

Paul Clement's side have now gone 10 games unbeaten, winning eight, and have the best away record in the division.

A win on Friday night would see them go top of the league, two points clear of second, albeit having played a game more than their Championship rivals.

Would Freedman have been better off taking Walker out of the spotlight?

With the right development, Walker could go on to be a very valuable asset in the future and Freedman is within his rights to boast about the youngster's ability.

Nevertheless, he has put an 18-year-old in the spotlight ahead of an important match that could see him lose his job should he fail to get a result.

It could prove to be a tough ask of Walker, who will come up against a defence that have claimed four clean sheets in their last six games, and end up backfiring on Freedman should he fail to live up to the billing.
