Tanganga the latest 16-year-old to show the future is very bright for Tottenham

Just how many exciting teenagers will Tottenham Hotspur fans see in their under-21 side this season?

Tottenham Hotspur fans who keep a close eye on the under-21s will know yet another youngster made their debut at that level earlier this week.

Japhet Tanganga may only be 16, but the left-back showed he is ready for the step up with a solid performance against German club Schalke in the Premier League International Cup, and he even provided an assist in the 3-1 victory.

While at many clubs a 16-year-old shining for the under-21s would be cause for considerable excitement, it is becoming something of a regular occurrence for Tottenham, with Marcus Edwards and Kazaiah Sterling (both 16) also getting their first taste of under-21 football earlier in the campaign.

Sterling is a striker who wasted little time impressing Tottenham coach Ugo Ehiogu, scoring in his only outing for the under-21s to date in a 7-4 win against Leicester City, while midfielder Edwards could ultimately go on to become the best of the bunch, such is his huge potential.

When you consider 17-year-old Cameron Carter-Vickers looks like becoming a great centre-back, Shayon Harrison is scoring regularly for both the under-18s and the under-21s and 16-year-old winger Keanan Bennetts has shown glimpses at under-21 level of his undeniable quality, it is clear that Tottenham have a whole host of exciting teenagers who could form the team of the future.

That is a long way off, but the simple fact is Tottenham have some of the most exciting teenagers in England and Tanganga’s promotion to the under-21s is just another sign that the strength at that level is something the club’s fans should get very excited about.
