Report: Liverpool take Belgian goalkeeper Jonathan De Bie on trial

Liverpool have agreed a short-term trial with 15-year-old goalkeeper Jonathan De Bie.

Jurgen Klopp has only been at Liverpool for a short time, but a report in Belgian media outlet HLN has suggested that he is already working to bring new players into the Reds’ academy system.

15-year-old goalkeeper Jonathan De Bie has linked up with Liverpool on a trial spell, leaving KV Mechelen for the past few days, with some non-competitive games lined up with the Merseyside outfit in the coming days.

A Belgian youth international, De Bie currently turns out for the Red Devils’ Under-16 side, and is currently with Mechelen after starting his career with Anderlecht.

He has now spent a few days with Liverpool, having shown himself to be far better than most in his age group. The report claims that he already turns out for Mechelen’s Under-17 and -19 sides, whilst he has worked in training with Philippe Vande, first-team goalkeeping coach for Mechelen.

There is little known about De Bie, due to his young age, but the HLN report gives some indication as to his talents. The report states: “De Bie is a very complete goalkeeper. His greatest qualities? Tough choice, but his reflexes, mental resilience and composure [standout].”
