According to a fresh report in the Italian publication Tuttomercato, Athletic Bilbao are plotting a new and improved contract offer for forward Inaki Williams in a bid to ward off suitors Everton.
Williams is widely regarded as one of the brightest prospects in La Liga at present, having scored three goals in only four league starts this season.
Born in Bilbao to a Ghanaian father and Liberian mother, Williams came through the club’s youth academy and possesses pace, power, aerial ability and a clinical strike in front of goal.
Reluctant to lose him any time soon, Tuttomercato state that Bilbao are well aware of Everton’s reported interest and plan to offer their rising star a new contract which will double his buyout clause.
Investing in the next best talent:
Everton boss Roberto Martinez has done a fine job at Goodison Park in terms of recruitment and getting value for money, yet there is work to be done in order to take the club to the next level.
The Toffees aren’t in a position to go out and buy the very best players, therefore they must beat their rivals to the punch in terms of acquiring the best youngsters around.
Regular first-teamers such as Tim Howard, Phil Jagielka, Gareth Barry and Arouna Kone – the team’s spine – are all in their thirties and the club must be looking now at potential replacements.
Williams represents a fine option considering his age and evident ability, though the Basque outfit will not give up their star players without a fight and are notorious at holding out for high sell-on prices.
