Spurs duo Dier and Alli have played a key role in Tottenham's success this season.
The former Spurs star said: “Dele Alli is becoming very very important, and Spurs are now looking very, very solid. Last season, Lloris was player of the year, and he is still fantastic, but he is not as exposed as he was last season. The two central midfielders - Alli and Eric [Dier] - are doing a tremendous job.”
Spurs have lost just one game in the Premier League this season, and they have the second best defensive record in the league. Hugo Lloris has still had to pull off a number of impressive saves, but not at the rate he did last term, and he has been aided by the work of his defence.
Jan Vertonghen has excelled since being partnered with Toby Alderweireld in the centre of defence, but Ardiles has praised the work of Alli and Dier as the real heroes of the current Spurs side.
They add a strength and defensive discipline to the midfield double-pivot, ensuring that the back-line are not under as much pressure as they were, whilst also allowing the attacking players the freedom to move forward without the fear of being caught by a counter-attack.
Dier and Alli are both young and English, and have been on the end of a wealth of praise so far this term, and Ardiles is the latest former player to express his delight at seeing the duo performing so well for Spurs this season.
