Daryl Janmaat is expected to be available despite picking up a knock against Stoke.
Newcastle United have been handed a boost by the news that Daryl Janmaat should be available for this weekend’s clash with Bournemouth.
The Dutchman was substituted late on in Saturday’s goalless draw with Stoke City and the natives were left wondering whether one of their top performers this season had become the latest in a extensive injury list at the club.
McClaren spoke after the game however, and hinted that the substitution was more precautionary than enforced.
“(It is) a knee injury which he has had a few problems with. Hopefully, that’s not too bad,” said the Newcastle boss, in quotes published by the Shields Gazette.
The Magpies have had horrendous luck with injuries this year and their absentee list now stretches into double-figures, with Rob Elliot and Jack Colback the latest to take their place on the treatment table.
Despite their fitness troubles, performances on the pitch have been improving and there is a new-found confidence that McClaren can be the man to take Newcastle forward.
Saturday’s trip to the South Coast represents another good chance to get points on the board against a Bournemouth side that have struggled in recent weeks after making a decent start to life in the top flight.
