A lot was made of Manchester United's lack of goals in the build-up to a crucial Champions League group stage clash with CSKA Moscow.
United hadn't scored in each of their previous three games - one of which included extra time in a League Cup defeat to Middlesbrough on penalties - but they ultimately prevailed on a pretty nervy night at Old Trafford with Wayne Rooney equalling Denis Law's goalscoring record in the process as he headed home from Jesse Lingaard's well cushioned cross just over 10 minutes from time.
It looked like it could be a night when United would be frustrated once again as they dominated their Russian counterparts, though they had to survive a scare in the second half when Chris Smalling cleared an effort from Seydou Doumbia when the two teams were deadlocked.
Louis van Gaal also felt the wrath of the Old Trafford crowd when he made the decision to substitute Anthony Martial for Marouane Fellaini, with several sections of the support booing the substitution.
But the United boss won't care as his side got a much needed result, and Rooney got back in among the goals after much criticism.
Just to show how big a goal it was for United's campaign, a 0-0 draw would've left them in third in the group going into the final two matches, whereas now they firmly have their destiny in their own hands.
