It was a very good night for Manchester City in the Champions League on Tuesday as they secured their passage to the knockout stages thanks to a 3-1 win over Sevilla, and Borussia Monchengladbach drawing with Juventus in the other match in Group D.
Last season's Europa League winners couldn't live with what the Premier League leaders had to offer, who opened the scoring through a cool finish from Raheem Sterling after he latched on to a Fernandinho pass, moments after they had a good shout for a penalty turned down for a challenge on the Brazilian.
Sterling's pace was a constant thorn in the Spaniards' side and he played a huge role in the second goal after getting in behind the home side's defence before squaring to Wilfried Bony, whose shot was saved but was followed up by Fernandinho to double their lead inside 11 minutes.
Just after the midway point of the first half, the home side pulled one back as Benoit Tremoulinas headed in from close range, but City's two-goal cushion was restored 10 minutes before the interval when Bony cooly finished from Jesus Navas's low cross.
There could have been more for the visitors, with Yaya Toure feeling he should have got on the scoresheet, Fernandinho perhaps thinking he could have got more, while Sterling got applauded off by the home fans.
It felt like one of those nights when City finally cracked a competition that has given them so much trouble in the past. Here are some of the best images:
