Leeds United finally put an end to their hunt for a first win at Elland Road this season last night with a 1-0 win at Cardiff City.
It was also a first win at the club for new manager Steve Evans. The victory was earned courtesy of a fantastic strike from Alex Mowatt, who has been out of form so far this season.
Of course he is not alone. The Leeds team have struggled in recent weeks to find their best performances and the recent defeat against Blackburn Rovers was perhaps the worst yet.
One man who highlighted that fact was former Leeds striker Noel Whelan. He made this bold statement during his commentary for the BBC on the game last night:
"I want to see a reaction from the Blackburn game.
"I want a stronger reaction, a stronger and more energetic performance and one that will get a win in this game.
"Really they all could have been dropped and a new team come in given the way they played last week, barring (Gaetano) Berardi and (Lewis) Cook."
Quite a claim from Whelan but it is hard to disagree. Leeds were awful in that Blackburn game but there was no doubt that they were kicked into gear this week and they put in a much stronger performance against their Welsh visitors last night.
Hopefully Leeds can continue to put in such performances as the season progresses.
