The Tottenham Hotspur coach was very impressed with his two centre-backs recently.
Tottenham Hotspur’s under-21 coach Ugo Ehiogu has been speaking to the club’s official website about two of his defensive options’ most recent performances.
The young Tottenham side took on German club Schalke in the Premier League International Cup on Tuesday evening and while Shayon Harrison (2) and Luke Amos scored in a 3-1 victory, Ehiogu reserved special praise for two players at the opposite end of the pitch.
Cameron Carter-Vickers and Milos Veljkovic played in the heart of Tottenham’s defence and not for the first time they impressed, to such an extent that it cannot be long before one or both are given a first-team chance under Mauricio Pochettino.
“We controlled their attacks, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Milos Veljkovic were outstanding, won everything and put us on the front foot,” Ehiogu told tottenhamhotspur.com.
Veljkovic is the more experienced player, and at 20 he will be hoping to get more first-team football in the months ahead, be that at Tottenham or, more likely, on loan.
Previous spells at Charlton Athletic and Middlesbrough have not gone according to plan but if he stays fit he has the potential to excel in the Championship and ultimately in the top flight.
As for Carter-Vickers, the USA under-20 international may only be 17 but he plays at a level far beyond his years and he could go on to become the best defender Tottenham have had since Ledley King at his peak.
