Chris Martin was full of praise for Andreas Weimann on Derby County’s official website after the Austria international notched the winner for his side in their match against Queens Park Rangers on Tuesday night.
Weimann netted in the second-half to provide Derby with the three points against QPR, and the strike took his tally to two goals in as many matches.
After a slow start to his Derby career, the former Aston Villa man seems to be hitting form, and Martin was delighted to see his teammate on the score-sheet once again.
“Tonight was just another example of Andreas’ good attitude and the character that he has got,” he said.
“He’s had to be patient and bide his time because Incey [Tom Ince] has done so well, but how he has stepped into the side for the past two and a half games is just what you want from any player coming into the side.
“We are all challenged to try and claim the shirt and he has given a very good account of himself. It’s not the goals, though, it’s his overall work rate and his play that have stood out.
“He is an effervescent player, he’s always on the move and he has slotted nicely into the side over the last few games. Hopefully his form continues.”
When Weimann arrived at the iPro Stadium, many expected him to have a huge part to play for the Rams this season, but he has found his first-team chances limited so far.
Weimann took a while to settle at his new club, and was left on the substitutes’ bench for many of their fixtures early on in the campaign.
However, he seems to have established his place in their side now, and he will be determined to keep hold of his position in the starting line-up.
Derby’s win over Queens Park Rangers lifted them even closer to the automatic promotion places, and Clement’s side are now just one point behind league leaders Hull City.
