The disgraceful stat that sums up Agbonlahor's woeful performance v Spurs

Gabriel Agbonlahor

The 29-year-old delivered another poor display against Tottenham Hotspur on Monday night.

Gabby Agbonlahor delivered another woeful performance on Monday night during Aston Villa's 3-1 defeat at Tottenham and one statistic in particular sums up his contribution.

Indeed, many can argue Kevin MacDonald was wrong to play Agbonlahor as a lone front man and that comes to the forward's defence. Agbonlahor was deprived of service and certainly isn't suited to playing through the middle.

But is there any excuse for what was ultimately a disgraceful display from the 29-year-old... who managed just eight touches against Spurs?

Gabriel Agbonlahor 8 45

No wonder Agbonlahor was substituted at half-time and the watching Remi Garde will likely think twice before even considering playing the experienced forward for Aston Villa. Two of his eight touches were from kick-offs.

Compare his poor first-half display to that of Jordan Ayew...

Jordan Ayew 39 1 1 3 2 52

As Opta stats show, Ayew netted, created one chance and won three dribbles in 52 on-pitch minutes v Tottenham.

The forward only managed two final-third passes but his 39 touches show how much more he was involved against the north London side than Agbonlahor.

As many pointed out during the Villa defeat, it's not rocket science that your side play better when you bring on your best players...
