Report: Tottenham, Southampton send scouts to watch PSG v Stade Rennais; Adrien Rabiot excels

PSG

Tottenham and Southampton have sent scouts to the French Ligue 1.

As confirmed by the official Stade Rennais website, Tottenham and Southampton joined a number of European teams in watching PSG take on Rennes last weekend.

PSG won the game thanks to an Angel Di Maria winner, extending their lead at the top of the table to 10 points, and Spurs and the Saints were keeping their eyes on a number of players involved.

With roughly two months to go before the January transfer window opens, teams are already starting to write up the targets they want to bring in, and are keeping a close eye on any potential signings.

For Tottenham and Southampton, they are clearly looking at the French market ahead of the January window, and they were just two of a number of teams who had sent scouts to Stade Rennais to see them lose to PSG.

There are no indications in the report as to which players were being observed, but Tottenham were sure to be keeping an eye on Adrien Rabiot of PSG, who has been a long-term target for the North London side.

Maxifoot published a report last week claiming that both Spurs and West Ham are showing an interest in Rabiot, and the Lilywhites would have seen the 20-year-old midfielder impress in a 90 minute performance against Rennes.

He played the entire game in midfield, controlling play with a 93% pass accuracy from 81 passes - the highest in the game. He also managed a game high 101 touches of the ball, and showed off his strength and accuracy in the tackle from a defensive standpoint.

There is no knowing who Southampton were scouting, but Rabiot is sure to have also piqued their interest following his excellent display for the league leaders.
