Barry Bannan speaks highly of Gary Hooper

Sheffield Wednesday

Gary Hooper joined Sheffield Wednesday on loan from Norwich City last month.

Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Barry Bannan has told The Sun that he is a long-term admirer of teammate Gary Hooper.

Bannan joined Championship outfit Wednesday from Premier League side Crystal Palace in the summer transfer window.

Hooper moved to the Owls from Premier League club Norwich City last month on loan until January.

Former Aston Villa and Crystal Palace Bannan has been impressed with the 27-year-old forward, and has revealed that he used to follow him when he was at Scottish giants Celtic, where he played from 2010 to 2013.

“It’s also good to have Gary join us,” the 25-year-old told The Sun. “He’s got plenty of pedigree. Adding a top-quality striker to the squad shows the owners mean business.

“I used to watch him when he played at Celtic, and I thought he was a cracking striker. He’s played at the highest level in the Champions League and acquitted himself well.”

Wednesday are eighth in the Championship table at the moment with 23 points from 14 matches, just a point behind sixth-place Birmingham City.

The Owls are very much in the running for a top-six finish in the league this season, but this evening they face a tough test.

Winning against league leaders Brighton & Hove Albion even at Hillsborough will not be easy.
