Aston Villa fans react on Twitter to Jack Grealish's performance at Tottenham

The 20-year-old playmaker struggled to make an impact during Monday night's 3-1 defeat at White Hart Lane.

Aston Villa fans were left frustrated once again on Monday night as a 3-1 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur extended their side’s Premier League losing streak to seven games.

New manager Remi Garde was watching on from the stands at White Hart Lane after being confirmed as Tim Sherwood’s successor a few hours earlier, but he was left under no illusions about the task facing him when Moussa Dembele gave the hosts the lead just two minutes into the match.

Delle Alli later doubled Tottenham’s advantage just before the break, and while Jordan Ayew’s 80th-minute strike gave Villa some hope of a comeback, a late Harry Kane finish kept the visitors bottom of the table with just four points from 11 games.

Caretaker boss Kevin MacDonald went with a 4-2-3-1 formation to begin the match, with Jack Grealish starting in the hole behind Gabby Agbonlahor, but the 20-year-old playmaker proceeded to endure the latest in a recent line of disappointing outings.

Tasked with pulling the strings from the middle, the academy product failed to offer the creative spark that was showcased during last season’s run-in, and after seeming increasingly sluggish as the second half wore on, he was eventually replaced by Carles Gil with 25 minutes left.

Villa immediately looked like a much more dangerous side with the diminutive Spaniard on the pitch, and given how Grealish has been struggling for form since arguably September’s 1-0 Capital One Cup win over Birmingham City, plenty of fans on Twitter were soon calling for him to be dropped for his fellow No. 10.

Here is a sampling of how the claret and blue faithful reacted to his subpar showing:
