Napoli midfielder Jorginho has been linked with a move to Arsenal.

The agent of Napoli star Jorginho has acknowledged Arsenal’s mooted interest in his client and says he is not surprised given the player’s superb performances, Tuttomercato report.

As recently reported by The Sun, the Gunners have been credited with holding an interest in the midfielder as they look for further additions in the January transfer window to cover for injuries.

Jorginho has been excellent for Napoli this season, featuring in 10 Serie A matches and helping the club push towards the top of the table under new boss Maurizio Sarri.

The reports state that Arsenal scouts were present during Jorginho’s recent appearance against Genoa, and his agent Joao Santos confirmed they were in the city, telling Radio CRC:

“I’m not surprised that the player, especially in light of the change in coach, is doing well now and has important clubs interested in him,” Italian publication Tuttomercato quote him as saying.

“One of Arsenal’s head scouts is well-known and so I know he was at Marassi during a recent Napoli encounter, but right now we aren’t thinking about that.

“If Arsenal are interested in January, then Napoli will tell me. The priority now is an international call-up, then comes the January transfer market.”

Would Jorginho be a good signing for Arsenal?

A holding midfielder should most certainly be the priority for Arsenal in January, though one who is capable of challenging Francis Coquelin for a spot and providing defensive cover.

Despite his talents, Jorginho is more attributed to a deep-lying playmaker role in the mould of Santi Cazorla – a position in which Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere provide sufficient cover.

Where the Gunners are light is an alternative natural holding midfielder to Coquelin, a player with excellent defensive capabilities and one who will protect the back four on a consistent basis.
