Report: West Ham United eye £8 million January deal for Manuel Lanzini

The Hammers hope to secure the future of the midfielder dubbed 'The Jewel'.

West Ham United will need to pay £8 million to secure the services of Manuel Lanzini on a permanent deal in January, according to ESPN.

The Argentine has been in inspired form since his arrival on loan from United Arab Emirates side Al Jazira this summer, and the Hammers will look to push through a permanent deal once the transfer window re-opens to avoid the possibility of losing him next summer.

Lanzini’s deal came with an option to buy, as well as an upfront fee for his season-long loan, but West Ham are thought to be keen to secure his future at the first available opportunity and have already opened talks.

The 22-year old is symbolic of the changing ethos at Upton Park and his performances will no doubt have caught the attentions of some of Europe’s biggest names.

Slaven Bilic has brought about a new sense of optimism to West Ham and keeping the likes of Lanzini and Dimitri Payet will be crucial in ensuring their recent success isn’t just a flash in the pan.
