Memphis Depay suffered another blow to his struggling debut season in England, with a very public dropping from his international team.
The winger also suffered a very public rebuke from national team boss Danny Blind, the father of his United teammate Daley. Awkward.
Blind was quoted by SkySports criticising Depay's attitude. He said: "In football you must function in a team. He doesn't always do that."
Depay missed United's weekend draw against Crystal Palace with an injury, and is also unlikely to feature against CSKA Moscow in the Champions League this week.
Considering the woeful state of the Dutch national team at present, who have failed to qualify for next summer's Euro 2016, Depay could be better off out of it. Yet he will surely not appreciate the humiliation of being dropped and criticised so publicly.
Depay has had an underwhelming start to the season with United, and this latest blow could see him re-focus, and actually do him good.
Time will tell if it is an effective ploy, with Blind following the lead of Van Gaal who left him out of the United team before his injury.
Fans are not entirely convinced the approach is right, but realise Depay has to improve. Here is a look at the reaction via Twitter...
LVG needs to get Memphis firing. Forget Rooney, Depay is our future. We should be concentrating on that not padding out Rooney's stats. #MUFC— Ben MUFC (@no12indiecoltss) November 2, 2015
