Former Celtic striker John Hartson said on Match of the Day 2 on BBC Two on Sunday evening that Virgil van Dijk is proving to be a bargain signing for Southampton.
Hartson made the comments following the defender’s performance against Bournemouth at home on Sunday.
The Netherlands international centre-back started the Premier League game at St. Mary’s Stadium and played for the entire 90 minutes.
Van Dijk had a pass accuracy of 89%, won 67% of his tackles, and won five interceptions, six clearances and two blocks, as Ronald Koeman's side won 2-0.
Hartson was impressed with the performance of the former Celtic star and spoke highly of him on Match of the Day 2 on BBC Two on Sunday evening.
Southampton signed Van Dijk from Scottish Premiership giants Celtic in the summer transfer window.
Van Dijk has scored two goals and created two chances in seven Premier League appearances for Southampton so far this season.
The former Groningen star has a pass accuracy of 84% and a shot accuracy of 83%, and has won 31 headers, three dribbles and eight tackles.
