Could the Celtic youngster be about to usurp his more experienced teammate permanently?
The 18-year-old is currently battling it out with Emilio Izaguirre for a regular starting spot at left-back and on recent evidence the teenager is winning.
Tierney has started Celtic’s last two league matches and he could well make his second Europa League appearance of the season later this week when Ronny Deila’s side take on Norwegian club Molde.
Izaguirre is regarded by some Celtic fans as the weak link in their side and Tierney’s emergence could be the answer they are looking for, while also pushing the Honduras international to up his own game. Not that the friendly competition is preventing him from mentoring the Celtic teenager, as he confirmed on Monday.
“Emilio has been brilliant with me,” Tierney said. “He gives me confidence and tips and I can only benefit from that.
“He is a great player with a lot of experience and the stuff I can learn from him is amazing.”
At this rate, Tierney could be the better player sooner rather than later, but experience is key at this level and that is something that only ever comes with time.
