The midfielder says he is targeting more goals this season after his latest against Bournemouth at the weekend.
The Italian has been a big hit for the Saints since joining last summer, and has once again been in fine form this season with nine goals so far, the latest coming in the 2-0 win over Bournemouth at the weekend.
With his size, strength and ability in the air, the forward has quickly become the ideal target man for the side, with them electing to go more direct at times when the game necessitates it.
And Davis says Pelle is one of the best the league when it comes to holding up the ball.
“I think he plays a vital role,” he told saintsfc.co.uk.
“He gives us that outlet if we want to go a little bit more direct and he can cause teams a lot of problems. We can play off him and he’s probably one of the best in the league in terms of doing that, so he’s been magnificent for us.”
While Pelle has been enjoying a good run of goal scoring form this season, Davis has also found himself among the goals in recent weeks.
The midfielder opened the scoring against the Cherries at the weekend, with that goal being his second in five games for the Saints, while he also scored twice for Northern Ireland in that period.
That is a decent run of form for a man who failed to score at all during the 2014-15 campaign, and he says he is looking to get a few more between now and the rest of the season.
“I think I just always try to get into the positions, but it was a great team goal,” he added.
“I just have to keep on trying to get into those positions and hopefully get a few more between now and the end of the season. It’s nice to see the ball hitting the back of the net.”
