The Newcastle United defender has strong feelings about their current league position.
The Magpies endured a terrible start to the campaign but a recent 6-2 victory against Norwich City and, more recently, a promising performance in a 0-0 draw with Stoke City suggested better things to come.
Mbemba only arrived at St James Park during the summer from Belgian club Anderlecht, but the 21-year-old clearly understands the stature of the club.
Speaking to NUFC.co.uk after their latest match, the DR Congo international said, “We’re close to being a good team and everyone can see that we don’t deserve to be where we are in the division.”
Newcastle are currently 18th in the Premier League but they are only one point away from safety at this stage and they are certainly showing signs of recovery.
Mbemba has impressed in his 12 appearances to date and while it was always going to take him time to settle at the club the future looks bright for him.
The question is: Can he help pull Newcastle up the table quickly enough to keep manager Steve McClaren in a job?
