The Ecuadorian winger has been one of the club’s top performers so far this season, grabbing two assists and proving to be an excellent ball-carrier in eight Premier League starts.
The 26-year-old was relatively unheard-of after joining the club from Mexican outfit Morelia in 2014, but after a challenging debut season he has now really taken to English football.
Similar to fellow countryman Antonio Valencia at Manchester United, Montero is lightning quick, direct with the ball and a nightmare for fullbacks to deal with.
“Swansea want Jefferson Montero on a new contract to keep Arsenal at bay.Wenger has regularly sent spies to watch Montero, 26, this season and he is an active name on their wanted list,” The Sun state.
Possible January addition:
With Arsenal’s current injury woes, Arsene Wenger may look to add a new wide player during the January transfer window and one with Premier League experience is always beneficial.
Moreover, Theo Walcott’s change of position to centre-forward may have inadvertently opened up space for a new wide player anyway and one which the Gunners may seek to add in January.
Montero’s current deal with Swansea expires in 18 months’ time, a potentially precarious position for Gary Monk’s side to be when approaching next summer.
