Sunderland lost 6-2 this weekend but what did Black Cats fans think of the Tottenham Hotspur loanee's contribution?
DeAndre Yedlin had a game to forget when he turned out for loan club Sunderland this weekend…but then so did all his Black Cats teammates.
The USA international is currently on loan from Tottenham Hotspur and to date he has featured five times for Sunderland; but having played a role in the 3-0 victory against Newcastle united last time out, things went sour a week on with Everton running out 6-2 victors.
It was an awful afternoon for Sam Allardyce’s men and Yedlin – despite sporadically using his pace to good effect – did little else of note and was caught out of position more than once.
Tottenham fans are hopeful Yedlin will ultimately come good and prove to be an effective option either at right-back or on the wing at White Hart Lane, but on this evidence he has a lot of work still to do.
The 22-year-old came off shortly after the hour-mark with Everton already 5-2 up and it will be interesting to see if he is played as a wing-back again when Sunderland face Southampton next weekend.
After the match we took to Twitter to see what Sunderland fans thought of the Tottenham loanee’s latest performance and you can read a selection of what we found below:
@Crippy4Villa Tactical suicide. We look okay in attack, but you can't push both midfielders up when Yedlin and van Aanholt are pushing up.— Simen Torve Sundland (@Simeninho) November 1, 2015
@ALS_Fanzine who would come to us though ? £20-30 mil needs spending on CB. Yedlin and PVA seem ok going forward but no good at defending— Rory Scurfield (@RoryScurfield) November 1, 2015
Tbf, played really well apart from all 5 defenders, although even Yedlin was canny.— Paul Peterson (@pp08) November 1, 2015
@shinguardian Yedlin continuing his tradition of poor 2nd halves. No effort in tracking back on the 5th goal. Subbed off immediately.— Peter Stinson (@windgapstinson) November 1, 2015
Just laughable at this point really. Off comes Yedlin at least.— Sam Agee (@Sammy_Agee) November 1, 2015
