Steve Harper sends message to Newcastle boss about Freddie Woodman on Twitter

The former Newcastle United goalkeeper has some advice for the head coach.

Former Newcastle shot stopper Steve Harper has a message for boss Steve McClaren - and he hopes the coach opts with Freddie Woodman against Bournemouth next week.

Indeed, an injury to Rob Elliot leaves Newcastle short in the goalkeeping department ahead of their trip to the South Coast.

But Harper hopes McClaren will give youth a chance in the Premier League and feels Woodman is ready to deliver for the St James' Park outfit during their crunch clash.

The Bournemouth game may well be the perfect chance to play Woodman.

The Cherries are only a point above Newcastle and their injury-ravaged squad is currently suffering without their best players.

If Newcastle can beat anyone, it'll be the newly promoted Bournemouth - with the Magpies thrashing Norwich City 6-2 recently.

What would be a shame for McClaren would be a Woodman mistake costing his side when they have the perfect chance to beat the Cherries. But there is no reason he shouldn't perform ably, while Newcastle can take their shot stopper out of the equation if he gets enough protection from his back four.
