The Everton boss has been talking after a great win for his side.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has been speaking after his side’s 6-2 victory against Sunderland this weekend, with his comments later posted on the Toffeesofficial Twitter account.

In what was a highly entertaining match, Everton’s goals came courtesy of Romelu Lukaku, Gerard Deulofeu, an own-goal from Sebastian Coates and an Arouna Kone hat-trick.

The latter was blighted by injury soon after signing for Everton but this season he has looked wonderful and Martinez has now confirmed that Kone’s goal-scoring appearance has trigged a 12-month contract extension.

That is great news for the 31-year-old whose deal was set to expire at the end of the current campaign, but on this kind of form why would Everton want to lose him?

Kone now has five goals for the season and he is developing a wonderful partnership with Lukaku.

While those two players shone, Deulofeu also played a significant role in Sunday’s victory and Martinez was quick to praise the young Spaniard.

“Two years ago, Gerard would not have been able to play three games in a week and have such an impact,” the Everton boss said. “It shows how far he has come.”

It certainly does and on this evidence Everton are set for a very good campaign…and an even brighter future.
