Liverpool’s holding midfielder Lucas Leiva put in an outstanding performance as he helped his side defeat Premier League champions Chelsea 3-1 at Stamford Bridge.
The Reds headed into the encounter unbeaten in all competitions under boss Jurgen Klopp, a far cry from the current shenanigans at Chelsea under the self-proclaimed Special One Jose Mourinho.
Lucas Leiva has been a key part of Liverpool’s upturn in results and performances, with his display at home to Southampton so good it warranted hefty praise and the man of the match award.
Against Chelsea, the Brazilian came in prepared for a tough afternoon despite the hosts’ current woes but he stood up the test, excelling in a number of key areas.

As per the table provided by Opta Stats, Leiva contributed greatly and had it not been for Philippe Coutinho’s double, he would have been a real contended for a successive MOTM award.
The former Gremio man posted three tackles, one interception, eight defensive duels won and an impressive nine ball recoveries – more than any other midfielder on the pitch.
After going a goal behind early on, it could have become a tough ask for the Reds yet they managed to stick to their game-plan, press high up the pitch and dominate the ball.
Leiva was instrumental in instigating attacks from deep, taking as many as 90 touches, completing 60 accurate passes and even weighed in with two chances created via key passes.
Goals from Coutinho and a late third from substitute Christian Benteke completed the victory, handing Klopp his first Premier League win as manager of the Merseyside club.
