Former Blackburn Rovers man Jason Roberts has taken to Twitter in order to lavish praise on Everton striker Romelu Lukaku for his performance during his side’s 6-2 win over Sunderland.

The Belgium international headed into his side’s clash having made a superb start to the season, scoring five goals and adding a further two assists in 10 Premier League starts.

It has been the sort of run which drove Everton to pay a club record transfer fee for his services, and one which boss Roberto Martinez will be keen for his striker to repeat.

In a topsy-turvy encounter with Sunderland, Lukaku and strike partner Aroune Kone ultimately proved the difference as they linked-up in devastating fashion during a second-half blitz by the Toffees.

Former Chelsea striker Lukaku scored one and assisted two before departing to a standing ovation on the 78th minute, drawing widespread praise from his boss plus BBC pundit Jason Roberts.

Lukaku was everywhere against the Black Cats, contributing with three shots, four key passes, two successful take-ons and plenty of intelligent runs.

His importance at Goodison Park is growing with each passing week and in such an open Premier League campaign this season, the Belgian star has the potential to fire his side to a European finish.

Next up for Roberto Martinez’s side is a trip to West Ham United, a game they will ideally need to win in order to keep tabs on fellow European-chasers Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur.
