The Aston Villa midfielder has taken to social media ahead of a big step in his recovery from injury.
Gary Gardner took to Twitter on Sunday morning to express his excitement ahead of facing Newcastle United's reserves on Monday night.
Indeed, Gardner has faced a long road to recovery after being injured by an unnecessary and reckless tackle during pre-season.
While Villa have toiled, then, especially in midfield, the 23-year-old has been forced to watch from the sidelines.
Now, though, he can return to action - for the reserves and only for a few minutes. But it's still good news for both the midfielder himself and Aston Villa fans.
Gardner could have provided just the drive Villa needed at the start of the season but there are no guarantees Tim Sherwood would have picked him. If Gardner was in form, Sherwood would probably have dropped him...
It will be tougher to make an impact now, however, considering the 23-year-old's recent injury troubles.
That said, Aston Villa's new manager - whoever it is - will likely review the squad he has inherited afresh, giving Gardner the perfect opportunity to stake his claim. That's if his final steps in the rehab process go well.
