Don Hutchison reacts on Twitter to Patrick van Aanholt's performance v Everton

The former Sunderland and Everton midfielder gave his verdict on the 25-year-old defender.

Former Sunderland and Everton midfielder Don Hutchison was left unimpressed by Patrick van Aanholt on Sunday afternoon as his side leaked goals against the Toffees.

The Wearside outfit found themselves 2-0 down within just half an hour, with Hutchison taking to Twitter to give his thoughts on Van Aanholt.

According to him, the Dutchman needs to 'sit' away from home instead of bombing forward. It's far from the first time the 25-year-old has received criticism.

Interestingly, Van Aanholt registered an assist as Sunderland clawed their way back into the game.

Indeed, the second half brought two goals for the Black Cats as they drew the scores level. The only problem was Everton then went on to score a few more...

The theme applies, then, and - as Sam Allardyce has himself said recently - Sunderland need to keep things simple.

There have been some woeful defences in the Premier League era: Derby County and Wolves come to mind. But this Sunderland defence could go down as one of the very worst. Big Sam has a huge amount of work to do to sort it out.
