HITC Sport understands that the experienced frontman is a target for injury-hit Molineux boss Kenny Jackett.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are closing in on a loan agreement for Wigan Athletic striker Grant Holt, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the proposed deal.

The experienced frontman has made just five substitute appearances for the Latics this season, having battled his way back from a long-term knee problem.

He is, however, a player with a useful CV and one with a proven track record when it comes to scoring goals in the Football League.

Holt is now 34 years of age, but he remains a useful option for those looking to use him as a squad player.

Wigan are likely to have seen him playing that role for them, as they endeavour to bounce back into the Championship, but it could be that he is offered a route back to the second tier elsewhere.

Wolves have been hit hard by injuries this season, and manager Kenny Jackett is understandably keen to get extra bodies on board.

Holt is among those under consideration and it could be that the former Nottingham Forest and Norwich City goal-getter is soon lining up at Molineux.
