Remi Garde should take Aston Villa challenge, says Arsene Wenger

The Arsenal boss has also given Villa fans an insight into what the Frenchman would bring to Villa Park.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says Remi Garde should take the Aston Villa job if it is offered to him.

Villa are currently looking for a new boss, having sacked Tim Sherwood following a disastrous start to the season which has seen them slip to the foot of the Premier League table.

A number of names have already been linked with the job, but the frontrunner appears to be former Lyon manager Garde, who is currently out of work, and Wenger has urged him to take on the challenge of managing Villa.

“I’m convinced that he’s the frontrunner. There are some problems to sort out there with his assistants, who work for Lyon as well,” he told arsenal.com.

“I don’t know if he will manage to sort that out or not. It is a challenge that he should take. Are assistants of Lyon free or not? It doesn’t matter, it’s a challenge he should take.”

The Gunners boss has also given Villa fans an insight into what Garde will be like should he take over at Villa Park.

The Frenchman is very much the unknown candidate of those being linked with the job, with the likes of David Moyes, Brendan Rodgers and Nigel Pearson all more familiar faces to the Villans faithful.

But Wenger has backed his compatriot, saying he is an intelligent man who will bring his own ideas through at the club.

“Remi is an intelligent man who has experience in Lyon now,” he added.

“He will try to get his ideas through, the ideas he got through in Lyon and hopefully it can work. They have five or six French players there who haven’t all had an impact, maybe he will give them a chance, I don’t know.”
