Derby County have made no secret of their desire to win promotion this season.

Paul Clement has told the Derby Telegraph that he wants Derby County to emulate Southampton, Swansea City and Stoke City.

Clement feels that the Premier League trio have set the blueprint for teams which want to become established in England’s top-flight.

And with Derby harbouring promotion ambitions of their own, Clement is hoping he can cement them among the Premier League elite in the near future.

"When we do get there [to the Premier League], we want sustainability," he said. "We want to stay up.

"I think the model of what clubs like Stoke, Swansea and Southampton are doing are great examples of what we need to aspire to in the medium term."

Derby spent big during the summer transfer window to ensure that they were fully equipped for a promotion push.

The Rams have a squad which is packed with quality, and they seem to be clicking into gear now.

Derby are unbeaten in their last eight matches in the Championship, and they have rapidly climbed the table to make it into the play-off positions.

A win at the weekend, against Rotherham United, could put them into the automatic promotion spots, and that would take them a step closer to achieving Clement’s goal of becoming a Premier League club.
