West Brom star Gareth McAuley jokes on Twitter about his most successful season ... as a schoolboy

The Northern Irishman was responding to a tweet from former class-mate Fergie.

West Brom veteran Gareth McAuley has certainly got to the top the hard way.

He built his way up from his home country with Linfield to playing with Lincoln City in England. Now he is a Premier League stalwart with West Bromwich Albion.

In that time he has not collected many honours. He was the West Brom player of the season back in 2012-13 and he won the Irish Cup in 2003 with Coleraine. But it seems that his most successful season came at a very tender age.

An old school friend of his, who also happens to be a famous Irish DJ Tweeted this pic on Twitter to which McAuley responded.

Robert William Ferguson, known as simply Fergie, tweeted this message:

So it seems that McAuley's most successful season came as a Primary School kid back in Larne, County Aintrim in a team that contained a future famous house DJ.

It's funny how things work out.
