HITC Sport understands that the 27-year-old is set to link up with Carlisle United on a short-term agreement.

Shrewsbury Town defender Mark Ellis is poised to join Carlisle United on loan, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the proposed deal.

The 27-year-old defender has made 12 appearances for the Shrews in all competitions this season, but could soon find himself on the move.

He helped his current employers to promotion last season, as they stepped back up into League One.

A return to the fourth tier beckons, though, with Carlisle ready to snap up his services on a short-term agreement.

The Cumbrians are perched just outside the League Two play-off places at present, with only two points separating them from the promotion-chasing pack.

Extra bodies will be required if they are to break into the top seven, and Ellis will be hoping to play his part.

Carlisle have only kept two clean sheets so far this season, although both of those have been collected in October so the foundations are there to build on.
