Andreas Pereira impressed despite Manchester United's loss to Middlesbrough in the Capital One Cup.
The Brazilian youth international scored a free-kick in the previous round against Ipswich Town, and came close to breaking the deadlock last night, fizzing a shot narrowly wide in extra-time.
United lost on penalties, but Pereira succeeded in converting his, while Wayne Rooney, Michael Carrick and Ashley Young all missed.
With the club eliminated from the Capital One Cup as a result, Pereira may be fearful of his playing time diminishing, but he did enough last night to suggest he deserves further opportunities.
The midfielder was a driving force in midfield and tried to make things happen against Aitor Karanka's dogged side.
He was unfortunate not to get on the scoresheet, and had the full support of the Old Trafford crowd, excited at his potential.
United have good options in midfield, with Ander Herrera, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Marouane Fellaini all competing for position, but the club cannot sleep on Pereira's talent, and need to give him playing time in the Premier League in order to aid his development.
Here is a look at how fans on twitter reacted to his performance...
Another positive, thought Pereira was very good. Think he's ready to push for a first team place properly now. #mufc— Daniel Feliciano (@dmf180593) October 29, 2015

As fringe players, you shouldn't have to carry a team as much as Lingard and Pereira did tonight. You lads didn't deserve to lose. #MUFC— Thomas B. Ditchfield (@TommyDitchfield) October 28, 2015
