Confirmed: Luke McGee signs new deal with Tottenham Hotspur

The talented goalkeeper becomes the latest youngster to commit his future to Spurs.

Tottenham Hotspur today confirmed –via their official site - that promising young goalkeeper Luke McGee has signed a new deal, keeping him at the club until 2019.

The 20-year old has steadily progressed through the age groups and featured for Spurs this summer in several pre-season friendlies.

Spurs have been active in tying down their best prospects recently and McGee represents a potential long-term solution between the sticks for the White Hart Lane club.

Mauricio Pochettino’s expects his goalkeepers to be comfortable playing out from the back and that ethos has been translated to the Spurs academy.

Young goalkeepers are discouraged from hoofing the ball from danger but are instead taught to value possession as much as any outfield player would.

McGee is a product of that way of thinking and he showcased his talents well during this Spurs’ Audi Cup participation in August.

The talented youngster is still a while from being first-team-ready but Tottenham’s pro-active approach in securing his future - along with several others - is a sign of a club with a clear plan.
