Roberto Martinez identifies Everton's two game-changers against Norwich City

Everton squeezed past Norwich City on penalties in the Capital One Cup.

Roberto Martinez believes that the introduction of Ross Barkley and Gerard Deulofeu turned Everton's match against Norwich City in his side's favour, as per his comments on the club's official website.

Everton squeezed past Norwich on penalties on Tuesday night to book their place in the quarter-finals of the Capital One Cup.

And Martinez was particularly pleased with the performances of Barkley and Deulofeu, who both entered the field just after the hour mark.

“In the second half, when Ross and Gerard came on, we had the best chances," the Spanish boss said. "We were more patient and found a way of getting through.

“I thought it was a fantastic cup tie. Norwich deserve credit. Technically they had a very impressive performance with the movement they had. They got the crowd frustrated in spells but we coped with it well."

When Barkley and Deulofeu came on to the field, Everton were 1-0 down in the contest, after Sebastian Bassong had given the visitors a lead.

However, Leon Osman levelled the scores and the match ultimately went to penalties, after the two sides could not be separated.

In the shoot-out, Nathan Redmond missed the decisive spot-kick, as Everton were able to celebrate a very important victory.

The Toffees have expressed a desire to lift the League Cup this season, and they are now only three wins away from claiming major silverware.
