The Belgian has suffered another knee injury and could miss this weekend's game with Chelsea.
The Belgian has only recently returned from injury and was working his way back to fitness, but is now set to spend another period on the treatment table due to injury.
The striker has tweaked ligaments in his knee and as a result will miss the Capital One cup clash with Bournemouth on Wednesday night, while he could also sit out the weekend’s game with Chelsea.
The good news however, is that scans on Tuesday revealed that the knock picked up in the draw with Southampton was not as bad as first feared according to The Telegraph's report.
It is however a big blow for manager Jurgen Klopp, who was apparently keen to hand Benteke his first start under him at Anfield and instead must again stick youngster Divock Origi as his number one forward.
The German will be hoping that Benteke can return sooner rather than later, with his fellow Belgian struggling to make an impact and Daniel Sturridge continuing his on-going battle for fitness.
