Player ratings - Youngsters make solid start to life in Liverpool first team as Klopp gets first win

Anfield Night

Jurgen Klopp got his first win as Liverpool boss as the Reds overcame Bournemouth 1-0 at Anfield to book their place in the quarter-finals of the League Cup.

Liverpool got their first win of the Jurgen Klopp era to beat Bournemouth 1-0 in the League Cup to set up a quarter-final tie with Southampton at St Mary's.

Klopp made nine changes to the side that drew 1-1 with the Saints at the weekend, giving Connor Randall, Joao Carlos Teixeira and Cameron Brannagan their full debuts, while Adam Bogdan made his second appearance for the club in goal.

The players on show certainly gave Klopp something to think about with an enthusiastic display, with Adam Bogdan making a string of saves to earn his clean sheet.

It was another game where the Reds failed to get the second goal, but Nathaniel Clyne's first strike for the club will be welcome for Klopp as his side dug out a result, but perhaps ought to have added to their tally in the second half.

The main thing is that Liverpool remain in the competition and the possibility of the German lifting a trophy within five months of his arrival.

There were some good performances from the fringe and younger players, but one can see there is the need to get the likes of Christian Benteke and Daniel Sturridge fit to provide that cutting edge.

Here is how the players rated:

Adam Bogdan - Couple of good solid saves early on and one right near the end. Certainly decent competition for Simon Mignolet - 7

Connor Randall - A young player who grew into the game. Looked more comfortable with Skrtel inside him. Something Klopp may consider when playing him in the future - 6

Dejan Lovren - Not a bad return to action for a player who was out of form prior to his injury. Still needs to be more composed in certain situations - 6

Kolo Toure - Lacked composure though pulled off one good challenge, comically pulled his hamstring. - 3

Nathaniel Clyne - Well taken goal and much improved defensively compared to his last two games when playing out of position - 7

Joe Allen - Slow start but got better as the game went on. Looked more comfortable in second half when given licence to press. Unlucky to pick up booking - 7

Cameron Brannagan - He'll be pleased with a solid 60. Some nice touches, a good full debut - 7

Jordon Ibe - Persistent and enthusiastic, looks like he could rediscover the form of the last season but plenty to work on. - 6

Joao Carlos Teixeira - It was hard to pick up where he was playing at times. Audacious in build-up to opener which almost went in itself, needs games. - 8

Roberto Firmino - The Reds looks like they're seeing why they paid £29 million for them. He should've scored on the hour mark. - 8

Divock Origi - Hard to see him as a centre forward as he doesn't play with the conviction required, but did work well - 5

Subs:

Martin Skrtel - Solid and talked Randall through the game pretty well - 6

Lucas - Did nothing of note, had a rare shot saved and shored things up - 6

Adam Lallana - Came on to protect Firmino, ran a bit. N/A
