Gaston Ramirez has told Southampton's official website that he is desperate to start playing a leading role for the club again.
Ramirez has come back into starting contention at St. Mary's in recent weeks, after he impressed Ronald Koeman with his application in training.
The attacking midfielder was brought on during Southampton's most recent match against Liverpool, and he helped the club to pick up an important point at Anfield by setting up the equalising goal in a 1-1 draw.
That appearance has given Ramirez the taste for competitive action again, and he has urged Koeman to continue selecting him.
"I want to be in the team and play as many games as possible," he said. That’s the only thing I’m thinking now.
"I’m working very hard, but the decision is with the manager. I’m waiting and ready for if I’m in the team or on the bench."
Ramirez's time at Southampton had appeared to be coming to an end during the summer transfer window, with the Uruguayan looking to be miles away from first-team reckoning.
However, he has turned things around and his appearance against Liverpool was just the second time Koeman has played him in a Premier League match since taking charge back in 2014.
Ramirez still has some work to do to become a regular starter at the south coast club, but if he can get back to his best, his technical ability should ensure that he has some part to play.
