Chelsea fans react to Asmir Begovic's performance against Stoke City on Twitter

Begovic returned to his old club but couldn't prevent Chelsea's poor run of form continuing.

Last night's fixture between Stoke City and Chelsea saw a familiar face return to the Britannia Stadium, with former Potter Asmir Begovic starting in goal for the Blues.

Begovic has been the man who has deputised for Thibaut Courtois in the Belgian's absence as he continues his recovery from a knee injury, with suggestions that the Bosnian will be the last line of defence until at least December.

But in terms of his performance last night, and in the context of his displays so far, Begovic seemed to have got a mixed reaction from those commenting on the game on Twitter.

Some feel he doesn't get the kind of credit he deserves and has performed admirably during his run in the side while others don't think he's up to the standard required as he tries to fill the void left by the highly-rated Courtois - which are admittedly big gloves to fill.

Unfortunately for both Begovic and Chelsea, he could do nothing about Jonathan Walters' terrific strike to open the scoring or any of the spot-kicks in the penalty shoot-out, as Eden Hazard's miss proved to be decisive.

The Chelsea side as a whole are struggling having been dumped out of the competition while currently languishing in 15th place in the Premier League, and face a must-win game against Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday.
