Tottenham bounced back from their disappointing Europa League defeat in Anderlecht by crushing last season’s Championship winners Bournemouth 5-1 at Dean Court.
Spurs striker Harry Kane grabbed a hat-trick, whereas there were also goals for Erik Lamela and Moussa Dembele as the visitors ran riot against a shell-shocked Bournemouth side.
In spite of the one-sided victory, Spurs were tested at the back and defenders Kyle Walker and Jan Vertonghen in particular both had superb games.
|Team||Interception Won||Mins Played|
|Claudio Yacob||West Brom||7||90|
As per the table provided by Opta Stats, Vertonghen produced more interceptions than any other Premier League defender over the weekend – a statistic which will delight boss Mauricio Pochettino.
The Belgium international, however, wasn’t the leading Premier League star in terms of interceptions this past weekend as that honour goes to West Brom’s Claudio Yacob.
The Argentine defensive midfielder had an excellent game as the Baggies defeated Norwich City 1-0.
Making a total of seven interceptions, he outright produced more than any other player and his display again illustrates just how much work West Brom put into organisation and team shape.
Tony Pulis has been a revelation at the Hawthorns, and his side’s clean sheet at Norwich was their 16th Premier League clean sheet since the turn of the New Year – more than any other side.
Yacob also made three effective clearances, five aerial winners and won eight defensive duels.
