Liverpool fans react on Twitter to Cameron Brannagan's contract extension

Brannagan has made one senior appearance for the Reds but has been in and around the first team set-up for a number of games.

Liverpool midfielder Cameron Brannagan has signed a new contract at the club, the player confirmed on Twitter.

Brannagan has been on the fringes of the first team this season, making one substitute appearance in the Europa League draw with Bordeaux last month.

The Liverpool Echo has reported that the deal for the under-21 captain is a long-term one, saying it will keep the 19-year-old at Anfield until 2018 after it looked as if his contract could expire at the end of the season.

It will be interesting to see how highly rated he is by new manager Jurgen Klopp, who has several options in central midfield, but the German may look to freshen up the side in the coming weeks, with a League Cup tie against Bournemouth on Wednesday a potential opportunity for the teenager to feature.

The Liverpool boss has a reputation for developing younger players and has placed his faith in Divock Origi up front as the young Belgian has started all three of Klopp's games in charge so far.

The fans who have taken to Twitter to react to the news seem to rate Brannagan highly and are delighted by the news, and feel he shouldn't have had to wait so long before a new deal was agreed. Here is a flavour of what was said:
